World Gum Health Day Event at BAU International University Batumi

On 11 May, BAU International University Batumi organised an education and practice-focused event to raise awareness of oral and dental health as part of World Gum Health Day. The programme addressed the impact of gum health on general health while introducing students to the preventive dentistry approach. Throughout the event, theoretical knowledge, clinical evaluation and student participation were brought together within the same framework.

The Link Between Gum Health and General Health

In the theoretical part of the programme, Professor Nino Cheminava gave a public lecture entitled "Oral and Systemic Health Connection: Why is Gum Health Important?". The presentation covered the impact of gum health on overall health, key clinical approaches in modern dentistry and the importance of preventive medicine.

Early detection of gum disease, regular oral care and professional check-ups play an important role in maintaining oral health. The lecture supported students to evaluate these issues within a scientific framework and to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between oral health and general health.

Practical Training with Free Dental Check-ups

Following the lecture, participants were offered free dental check-ups. In the practical part of the event, upper-year students performed dental examinations under the supervision of experts. This process allowed students to develop their clinical skills in a real practice environment and gain direct experience in patient communication.

Approximately 50 students benefited from the free dental screening. During the examinations, basic assessments of oral and dental health were made and participants were informed about their current condition. Symbolic gifts were presented to the participants at the end of the event.

Clinical Experience for Dentistry Students

The active participation of upper-year students in the examination processes strengthened the educational aspect of the event. Students gained experience in examination, communication and professional responsibility by applying the knowledge they acquired during their academic education in a clinical setting.

The practice carried out under expert supervision supported the correct use of clinical techniques and systematically improved the students' approach to patients. Thus, the event transformed the health awareness work into a practical learning experience at the same time.

Preventive Dentistry and Health Awareness

The programme, organised as part of World Gum Health Day, made the importance of preventive dentistry visible across the campus. Key topics such as regular check-ups, oral hygiene and early evaluation came to the fore in both the theoretical and practical parts of the event.

While supporting dentistry education with practice-oriented projects, BAU International University Batumi also attaches importance to developing students' professional competencies. Such events strengthen the education process of students by bringing academic knowledge together with clinical experience.

Practice-Oriented Dentistry Education at BAU Batumi

In addition to developing students' professional skills, the event also contributed to strengthening health awareness in the university community. The programme, which consisted of a public lecture, free dental check-ups and student participation, provided a comprehensive learning environment for the protection of oral health.

BAU International University Batumi continues to develop students' clinical skills, sense of professional responsibility and patient communication through projects that bring education and practice together. The World Gum Health Day event was also a recent example reflecting the university's practice-oriented approach to education in terms of modern dentistry training, preventive health approach and strengthening health awareness in society.

While this project enabled students to reinforce their clinical training with real practices, it also created awareness of oral and dental health across the campus. The meeting of theoretical knowledge and clinical practice within the same programme supported the professional development of students and directly strengthened the place of preventive health culture in university life.
