International Scientific Success from BAU International University Batumi Students at SIMC 2026

BAU International University Batumi Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences sixth-year students Sofya Sandalova and Ugur Dal represented their university at the Silesia International Medical Conference 2026, held in Katowice, Poland. Held on 13-15 May 2026, the international congress brought together medical students and young researchers from different countries around the world. The students shared two current research studies with the scientific community in the Pharmacy and Pharmacology session.

Two Scientific Research Presentations at SIMC 2026

Within the scope of the congress, Sofya Sandalova and Ugur Dal presented their research titled "Comparison of Ocular Adverse Events Reported with Semaglutide and Tirzepatide According to EudraVigilance Data". The study comparatively addressed ocular adverse effect reports associated with two different treatments through pharmacovigilance data.

The second study presented by the students was titled "Neurological Adverse Event Reports After HPV Vaccination: VAERS". The research focused on current pharmacovigilance studies by examining reported neurological adverse events after HPV vaccination through the relevant database. Both studies evaluated current topics in medical science with a data-driven approach.

Current Topics in the Pharmacy and Pharmacology Session

The students' research centered on current medical topics such as drug safety and adverse event reporting. Database analyses regarding semaglutide, tirzepatide, and the HPV vaccine demonstrated the importance of pharmacovigilance in clinical research. These studies strengthened the students' skills in interpreting health data, developing research questions, and presenting findings within a scientific framework. Academic interaction established with other research in the same session at the international congress also contributed to the students' analysis of different methodological approaches and the evaluation of their own work within a broader scientific context.

Research Abstracts Published in the Scientific Abstract Book

The abstracts of both studies presented at the congress were also accepted following the scientific evaluation process and published in the conference's official scientific abstract book. This outcome ensured that the research conducted by the students gained visibility in the international academic environment.

As one of the largest student medical congresses in Poland, SIMC offers research presentations, scientific sessions, and areas for professional interaction. The 2026 program of the congress included sessions, workshops, and scientific debates for different medical disciplines. This structure contributed to young researchers sharing their work and developing their international scientific communication skills.

Third Prize from the International Jury

One of the research studies presented by Sofya Sandalova and Ugur Dal was awarded the third prize by the international scientific jury. This ranking highlighted the scientific quality of the work and the students' success in the research process at an international level.

The award demonstrated that the students gained significant experience both in conducting research and in presenting and defending scientific results in an academic environment. The knowledge and feedback acquired at the congress established a strong foundation for future academic work.

Support for Student Research at BAU Batumi

BAU International University Batumi supports medical students' participation in scientific research, the presentation of their work at international congresses, and the strengthening of their academic development. The success of Sofya Sandalova and Ugur Dal at SIMC 2026 became one of the prominent examples of the university's research-oriented approach to medical education.

The international congress experience enabled the students to follow current medical research, communicate with young scientists from different countries, and develop their scientific presentation skills. The inclusion of the studies in the official congress publication and the third prize received made the students' academic output visible on an international level.

BAU International University Batumi continues to support academic activities that strengthen its students' research culture and to train the health professionals of the future with scientific thinking, critical evaluation, and international academic communication skills.
